P3

Welcome to the P3 page!

In P3, we have lots of fun learning things in a variety of interesting and engaging ways.  Why not take a look through our photos to find out all about what we have been doing? We've had an action-packed term full of exciting activities, as you can see!

We kickstart our year with our work based around the topic of 'Superheroes'.  In our Superheroes topic, we will be completing lots of fun maths and Literacy activities.  There will also be a lot of craft work associated with the topic, such as our fabulous superhero eye masks, cuffs and even our superhero paintings!

In Literacy, we are working hard to build our sentence writing skills and are beginning to add descriptive detail to our writing too! In Numeracy, we have been looking at different ways of representing numbers all the way up to 100! We have had lots of fun playing skills-based games, and we love completing our 'chilli' challenges to further our skills and understanding of numbers!

Please do keep a look out on our page for further updates with regard to what we are getting up to in P3!

Best wishes,

Miss J Johnston

Meet our 2025/26 Class!

Numeracy

Number Bonds to 20

P3 have been busy learning their number bonds to 20. The children have taken part in a range of practical, hands‑on activities to help commit these important number facts to memory. Working with a partner, they investigated all the different number pairs that make 20 and enjoyed reinforcing their learning through fun games such as I Say, You Say and Hit the Button. A great way to build confidence and fluency in maths!

Literacy

Instruction Unit

As part  of our Literacy work, we followed a set of instructions to make our lollipop superheroes! We were able to recognise 'time connectives' and 'bossy (imperative) verbs' as we completed each step.  Look at some examples of our creations below!

Fact Finding – Comprehension

As part of our topic work on 'Castles, Knights and Dragons', P3 went on a fact-finding hunt to find out information about Carrickfergus Castle in preparation for our upcoming trip.  We had lots of fun learning new facts!

Non-Fiction Books

P3 have been enjoying reading a range of non-fiction texts as part of their guided reading sessions. During this time, the children have been learning to recognise key features of non-fiction books, including contents pages, captions, photographs, glossaries, bold text and index pages, to name just a few.

To consolidate their learning, the children were set a fun challenge to explore a selection of non-fiction books and identify as many of these features as possible. A great way to develop research skills and deepen their understanding of informational texts!

Noun Hunt

P3 have been busy learning all about nouns. The children learnt that nouns can be the names of a person, place or thing. To put their learning into practice, P3 went on an exciting noun hunt and sorted the nouns they found into the three categories. A fun and active way to reinforce their learning!

Phonics

P3 took their learning outdoors to practise words using their spelling sounds for this week, using chalk to write them on the ground. The children had great fun learning in a different way, and the sunshine even made an appearance, making the experience extra enjoyable!

ICT

Coding

P3 have been developing their coding skills using Just2easy and have had great fun along the way. Using JIT and the Turtle program, the children learnt how to programme different sprites to move around a background by giving simple instructions such as forwards, backwards, left and right. Through these activities, the children developed new skills in sequencing, problem-solving and logical thinking, while enjoying seeing their code come to life.

PE

Gymnastics

P3 have had lots of fun taking part in gymnastics this term. The children have been busy developing and refining their skills, including forward and backward rolls, as well as learning how to use the climbing frames and pommel horse safely. They have also worked hard to improve their balance skills.

All of these activities have helped to develop the children’s fitness, build core strength and improve balance — all while having plenty of fun along the way!
