End of Year 2016

Thursday 30th June, 2016

Dear Parent,

Here we are again- another year over. They are definitely getting faster! We said our farewells to P7 yesterday and wish them well as they prepare for their new schools in September. We are also saying farewell to Mrs McMorran after 16 years at PPS and we wish her health and happiness as she begins her retirement. We will miss her wisdom, experience and calmness terribly.

We would also like to take this opportunity to wish Miss Mageean a wonderful day on 21st July when she will officially become Mrs Hughes (No.2). Hope plans are progressing smoothly.

I would also like to thank my staff, teaching and non-teaching, for another action packed year at PPS (aren’t they all!) Competing with building works yet again we have completed another successful year. I can’t thank them enough for the work they do with such happy hearts. It is a fabulous place to “work”. Also our hardworking PPF who once again sacrificed their own time to raise much needed funds for the school. Very, very much appreciated.

On a personal note, on behalf of the whole Bell family, I would like to thank everyone in the school and community who supported us through recent difficult times. There are no words to say how much your cards, prayers and messages meant to us. Thank you.

Looking forward, please note our holidays for 2016/17 are available on our website. As always we ask that you refrain from booking holidays during term time as this can be very disruptive to your child’s learning and friendship groups. As per note enclosed with your child’s report, the school term will re-commence on Tues 30th  Aug and both 30th and 31st will be half days for the children, ending at 12.10p.m. (P1- 12 noon) to accommodate class talks. Please try to attend. Regular school hours will commence on Mon 1st September including school meals.

N.B. P1 children will leave school at 12 noon for the month of September and P3 children remain in school until 3.00p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays of each week throughout the year. Wed- Fri. they leave at 2.00p.m.

On our return P2-7 children should be in school ready to line up in the playground for the bell at 9.00a.m. We ask that P2-7 parents remain outside the school grounds to avoid congestion. P1 children line up at the main school entrance and parents may remain with them until further notice. Please note playground supervision begins at 8.50a.m. On wet mornings children will not be permitted into the school building until 9.00a.m. As per previous correspondence, children will not be permitted onto school grounds until supervision begins unless attending Breakfast Club. The staff member on duty will open the pedestrian gate in the morning. Concerns have been raised re increasing numbers arriving considerably earlier than 8.50a.m. who are then unsupervised in the playground. This will ensure the children remain safe and supervised at all times.

Other “housekeeping” issues:-

School meals remain at  £2.50 p/day

Daily milk will begin on Monday 5th September (tbc)

Uniform: As part of our effort to maintain the high standards we have been commended for, I would

respectfully remind you of the importance we place on school uniform. Can I thank you for your support to date in this matter. “Smart appearance = smart attitude”.

Girls - Grey skirt, blue shirt, school tie, school jumper/ cardigan, white socks

Boys – Grey trousers, blue shirt, school tie, school jumper/ cardigan

*Formal footwear to be worn with school uniform- not trainers.

PE kit: Although not compulsory, a school PE kit is preferred. In the event you have opted not to purchase the PE kit, children should come to school in their formal uniform and change in school for PE.

Safety: Jewellery, other than stud earrings, watches and signet rings, is not permitted. All jewellery must be removed during PE activities. Make-up and coloured nail polish is also not permitted.

Healthy break: This is very much part of the positive lifestyle choices we encourage the children to make. Baked crisps are permitted but NO fizzy/ energy drinks. At the beginning of the term your child’s class will discuss healthy options. We would ask that you encourage your child to adhere to the permitted list.

Breakfast Club and Homework Club will re-open on Mon 5th  September. Further details to follow on our return.

During the year various trips or purchases through school, e.g. Residentials, tracksuits, etc. can be paid using our payment scheme cards. If you wish to avail of this facility, please contact your child’s teacher or the office.

It only remains for me to wish everyone a safe and relaxing summer break with hopefully the odd day of sunshine thrown in. See you in August!

With every best wish,

Lorna Stitt and Staff J
